Marriage/Domestic Partnership after Retirement
If Police & Fire retirees marry after retirement, they have the option of naming their new spouse as a beneficiary for a continuance of benefits in the event of their death. This option is only available if the Police/Fire retiree contacts the Office of Retirement Services within 90 days of their marriage.
This option is actuarially calculated based on the retiree’s monthly pension amount, date of birth, and spouse's date of birth to show the amount their monthly pension would be reduced to pay for this benefit. The greater the age difference, the greater the cost.
